EMS as an Essential Service

The current debate regarding EMS as an essential service is addressed in this white paper published by NHTSA. Interestingly, the lead author is the tenured City Manager from Dubuque, Iowa. The paper is written from an economic standpoint rather than an emotional, public safety or public health standpoint. It gives a great perspective that elected officials, business professionals and economists will understand. The article can be found here.

Aging Resources of Central Iowa:

http://www.agingresources.com/

Aging Resources staff advocate, coordinate and provide services through federal, state and private funding to persons 60 years of age and older and their families.

Aging Resources is a LifeLong Links (Iowa’s Aging and Disability Resource Center) local coordination center providing information referral and assistance to adults with disabilities.

Aging Resources of Central Iowa is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3), Area Agency on Aging. Our goal is to allow older adults individual choices in their care process in order to remain safe and independent in their homes.

Response Data:

This data is gathered and compiled from services who utilize the patient follow-up feature of our website. We ask providers to supply some basic information about scene and response times, and we compile it for benchmarking purposes. Data is not identified by department, but is reported as aggregate data or by patient type. This allows individual services to compare their own data with other services in the metro area. Data continues to grow slowly – current graphs represent data through July 21st, 2012.
